Dennis Pickleball Play opportunities and Locations

Pickleball is played year-round at the Wixon courts (145 Old Chatham Road, South Dennis), depending on the weather and rain (no play when courts are wet).  See below for Wixon play guidelines.

“MONITORED PLAY SEASON” Registered Play

DURING THE “MONITORED PLAY SEASON” (Mid-May through end of September)

Registration with the Town of Dennis is required to participate in monitored play (9 am -12 noon in May/June/September, 8-11 am in July/August, 5-7 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays all season).  Anyone can register and play with other players, with a range of ability levels.  The cost is $55 for Dennis residents, $75 for non-Dennis residents.

For information about how to register, please click here.

Drop-in play is not offered for unregistered players during monitored play hours.
Anyone can play at Wixon after monitored play ends (noon or 11), except for 5-7 on Tuesday/Thurdsay.  It can be hard to predict how many people might be there to play with.  In mid-summer, the courts are often almost full, but there is no guarantee, especially for May-early June and September.
Drop-in play is available in other nearby towns:

  • Yarmouth Pickleball offers organized pickleball play at Flax Pond, 31 Dupont Avenue, from 9 am to 12 noon ($5/day).
  • Barnstable Pickleball offers organized pickleball play open to all from 8 am to 12 noon Monday through Saturday (no drop-in fee).  https://barnstablepickleball.com/

“OFF SEASON"

DURING THE “OFF SEASON" (October through mid-May)

If the courts are dry and the temperature is above the mid-30s, there will usually be people playing at Wixon in the mornings (9-11, usually earlier and later also).  No registration is required; just show up, put your paddle on the fence in a group of four, and take your turn on the court.  Please model good sportsmanship and have fun!

TeamReach

The app TeamReach is used for official communication to members about court closures and other information during the season, by members year round to set up play outside of reserved times, and for other informal communication.  The app can be downloaded to your phone.  The group code is DennisPb01.

Wixon Courts : 145 Old Chatham Road, South Dennis, MA 02660

14 Outdoor Pickleball Courts with permanent nets, open to the public year round.  Courts are reserved for registered members during monitored play hours as outlined above, and for special events.

Seaview Park Courts: 475 Lower County Road, Dennis Port, MA 02639

2 Tennis Courts lined for 4 pickleball.  You will need to bring your own nets.  Courts are open to the public year round, but may occasionally be reserved for lessons and league play.  Check signage at the courts.

John Kelley Park : 168 Old Bass River Road, Bob Crowell Road, South Dennis, MA 02660

Tennis courts are lined for pickleball using the tennis nets and are lit for night play..  Courts are open to the public year round, but may occasionally be reserved for lessons and league play.  Check signage at the courts.

WIXON COURTS GUIDELINES FOR USE

RULES:

  1. No food or beverages allowed on the courts, including water.
  2. No bags, backpacks, or other objects are allowed on the courts or hanging on the fences.
  3. During monitored play times:
    1. Only registered players are allowed on the courts.
    2. Be ready to present your photo ID tag whenever a monitor asks to see it.
    3. Monitors control the flow of players onto the courts and will send out players in the order the first player starts a box.
    4. Boxes of 4 players must be filled and sent out to the courts before any later groups of 4 are allowed onto the courts.
    5. No drilling, practice, or singles games are allowed.
    6. If the courts are above capacity, monitors have the right to tell players to temporarily “play to 11, win by 1.”
    7. Monitors reserve the right to temporarily adjust rules as conditions warrant.
  4. During non-monitored play times, as a courtesy to equitably share the courts:
    1. Waiting players should self-organize and put paddles on the fence in groups of 4, first come first served.
    2. Complete groups of 4 do not need to wait for incomplete groups to fill before taking an open court.
    3. If all courts are in use, groups should come off the court after each game or, if actual games aren’t being played, after 20 minutes.

    CODE OF CONDUCT:

  1. Pickleball is only a game, designed for everyone’s enjoyment; your conduct on the courts should reflect this.  Have fun!
  2. Engage in sportsmanlike conduct and encourage others to do so.
  3. Engage in behavior that encourages the health, safety, and well-being of others.
  4. Use appropriate language and refrain from profanity and abusive language.
  5. Exhibit fairness and honesty in all interactions on the courts.
  6. Introduce yourselves before the game; click paddles at the end and thank your opponents and partner.
  7. The players on the side where the ball bounced are responsible for making line calls.  If in doubt, call it in.
  8. Do not criticize your partner’s or opponents’ play; do not offer unsolicited advice.
  9. Treat everyone with dignity and respect, especially the monitors.
  10. Above all else, observe the Golden Rule of treating others as you would want to be treated.

WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT

Friends of Dennis Pickleball

The Friends of Dennis Pickleball is a non-profit organization.  FODP worked with the Town of Dennis, along with the CPC, in 2019 to rebuild the dilapidated tennis courts on Old Chatham Road in South Dennis.  We donated over $10,000 to the town through our fundraising efforts.  We continue to raise money to support pickleball play in the areas of need.

What is Pickleball?

Pickleball is an entertaining mix of tennis, badminton, and ping pong.   A paddle sport created for all ages and skill levels.  It's fast paced, easy to learn, great exercise and lots of FUN.  Come Check it Out!
